Science project car

For my current event science blog I will be explaining how I am going to build my car for the upcoming science project. Most of the car will be made out of cardboard and some other materials. The body of the car will be fully made of cardboard so it will travel at a faster rate since cardboard is lite. Im going to use a wooden round rod to stick between both sides of the cardboard for my wheels. Originally, I was thinking of making the wheels out of styrofoam but we are not allowed too since it is so bad for the planet. I choose to use wood instead and carve the wood by myself to make it round and then attach both sets of wheels on the rods. The rods will be in the front and back. All the wood will be made by myself, I have alot of experience with tools. When the car is finished I estimate it should be very lite weight and fast. The body and rods wont be too big since I need to fit the car on the ramp.

Soaring Straws

Recently in science we completed the soaring straws lab. During the lab we had to use G.P.E and E.P.E. The relationship between these two are that they both have potential energy. One uses gravity while the other one uses elastic. During the process we had to pull back a straw attached to a rubber band and let go. The straw then launched in the air until it either hit the ceiling or stopped and came down. The E.P.E was used when using the rubber band to pull back the straw increasing its power. Once launched the straw had Kinetic energy. Once it reached its top point before coming back down it stops for a single second which is where G.P.E is shown.

Our first row of data in the chart was false. We misread the directions and came out with the wrong results. During the lab my friends were fooling around and I was shot with the straw from a very close distance. I started to bleed right  by my eye. This shows that the energy of the straw was very powerful since it hurt and started to bleed. Other than these few errors we got the lab done successfully. A few suggestions would be that next time we should have more room for the straws to go higher and more space for everyone so no straws would be lost and no one would be hurt.

Carmelo Anthony going to Knicks!

As many already know Carmelo Anthony is going to the Knicks. Melo going to the Knicks have raised a lot of praise and fans for the team. Melo signed to the Knicks Monday night (the 21st). The Carmelo Anthony trade saga has ended. With many years on the Denver Nuggets its about time he got a change of teams. As a faithful Boston Celtics fan it wasnt really a big deal but still exciting.

Lab Analysis continued..

The last day of the analysis me and my partner discovered we had done the lab graphs all wrong. Instead of keeping the yellow fish in the morgue we took them out after each generation not knowing they were supposed to stay in the morgue. After the natural disaster we also didnt keep green fish in the morgue after we took them out. Now knowing my mistake i would of done everything different with the graph especially. Other than taking the fish out of the morgue when they already were there I think we did everything else good according to the directions. Knowing I did the graph wrong i didnt answer the questions because I already thought i couldnt since the graph was wrong. We properly took the fish out and paired them and recorded the results on our graph.

Now finishing the questions i realized more what we did wrong. During the natural disaster we too the green fish out of the morgue after each generation also. Now that I am finished i still think other than our mistake that we did everything else correct. We closed our eyes picking the fish out of the pool, we paired the two up and recorded the results, and after each generation we took the proper fish along with our mistake of the yellow back in the pool.

Lab Analysis

For the Lab in science we had to do alot of confusing things. First, we had to collect our toothpicks and sort them out into each color to check if we had 8 each. Next, we had to figure out which genotypes represented each color on a table. The lab took awhile to get used too but as it went on it seemed it got simply and easy to comprehend. We then had to answer a few questions on our lab packets that had something to do with the chart we filled in. After answering a few questions we had to pull out a pair of toothpicks without looking and put them out on the table. We then determined what the genotype was and put it in a table labeled first generation.

One of the things we had to pay alot of attention too was the yellow toothpicks. If we got a pair of both yellow toothpicks we had to put them in the "morgue" and set them aside. Then we pulled the second and third generation of toothpicks out of the cup. After completing this we had to answer a few more questions. The fourth generation was the trickiest. A natural disaster occurs and any green fish are eaten and taken out and placed in the morgue just like the green. After doing this we had a few more questions to answer and were finished.

How video games make you smarter.

Everyone knows about video games and almost everyone plays them at some point. People throughout the history of video games have judged people who play them as lazy, inept and socially awkward but lately research shows different. Instead of burning brain cells playing video games usually you build them instead. Research has shown that video games can make you smarter in more ways than one. The person who is playing the game is actually learning decision making skills, teamwork, job training and hands on experience. Playing a video game gives you the encouragement to keep trying to reach whatever your goal is not only in the game but life. A great example for teamwork would be the game "World of Warcraft" because it is a game in which you and other players come together to reach one common goal. Research also shows it doesnt hurt to exercise and study but playing video games is a great way to exercise your mind. In fact video games have been used at universities in recent years in order for students to learn and the technique of learning has been spread over the country. In my opinion its a great way to learn and can teach you alot of things usually you would think couldnt. Its a great impact on the world and we can use it to our advantage for not only enjoyment but for learning.
